Joelle Prate

Teacher

Joelle Prate is an OC native, veteran K-12 and teacher educator, PhD student, and mom of two. Ms. Prate returns to The Arbor since having taught here during the 2020-2021 school year with over 12 years of experience serving in a variety of positions including teaching middle and high school biology for many years, serving as an academy and science fair coordinator, and supporting and coaching current and prospective teachers. She holds a master’s degree in educational technology and is working toward a PhD in education with an emphasis on teacher education. Her dissertation will focus on innovative teaching strategies utilizing blended learning in science education.

In the classroom, Ms. Prate has worked with students at all levels teaching biology, life science, Earth science, health, and sharing her love of the natural world. She relishes the opportunity to develop meaningful inquiry and experiential lessons and to learn and play alongside her students.

Outside of the classroom, Ms. Prate enjoys adventures with her family, baking, and gardening.
